Billy Walton Band
June 21, 2016 @ 7:15 pm - 11:00 pm£13
The Billy Walton Band
There was a time when the Jersey Shore represented the best in American entertainment. Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, the Rat Pack, Dick Clark, Chubby Checker, they all made stops on the Jersey Shore. Tony Mart’s was the club Levon Helm was playing when Dylan called.
Of course we all know what happened in Asbury Park. The town, ravaged by riots in the late 60’s, became a melting pot of musical experimentation. Late night jams that ended when the sun came up were the norm. Bruce Springsteen & Southside Johnny were the two acts that made their way to an international stage from these humble beginnings.
Since the age of 15 Billy Walton has plied his craft in the Asbury Park/New Jersey shore music scene–most notably as the guitarist for Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes. During his time with the Jukes, Walton has played countless gigs in both the United States and Europe. Over the years Walton has sat in with numerous of rock luminaries including Springsteen, Gary US Bonds and Stevie Ray’s backing band, Double Trouble.
The foundation for the future was set when Billy teamed up with bassist William Paris. The talent and organization of this core has been the driving force that has seen the band launch 15 European tours since 2008. The line up solidified with the addition of Johnny D’Angelo on drums. The band decided to show their Jersey roots by expanding to a 5 piece with the addition of Sean Marks on sax and Ian Gray on trombone.Walton’s connection to his heroes is not just through his record collection. Over the years he has developed a close friendship with Roger Mayer, the well-known British guitar effects guru whose devices have played such a pivotal part in rock n roll for nearly every major player since Hendrix. But regardless of his influences or where he’s from, the Billy Walton Band’s ultimate appeal lies in the unique musical gifts of its founder, Walton himself, who, like his forebears is poised to join the long and storied list of sidemen whose time has come to step out front.
You can say Bruce Springsteen is a singer songwriter fronting an old-school rock n soul band. Southside Johnny is a soul singer fronting an old-school rock n soul band. Billy Walton is the guitar hero fronting the old-school rock n soul band. The horns are the common thread.
Good things have been happening to the Billy Walton Band. The band recently signed to Vizztone Records for the release of Wish For What You Want. Produced by Tony Braunagel, the award winning BMA producer and current Eric Burdon drummer, this batch of songs will certainly take the band to the next level!
With his guitar, Billy will shuffle off to Chicago…we’ll pick up the horns in Detroit and make our way down to New Orleans for some gumbo. Hurricane Billy will then whisk you up the coast and roll the dice in AC before landing in Asbury Park. Come along for the ride!
Charlotte Marshall & The 45s
Hot off the press, this sizzling eight-piece groove band brings a distinctive flavour of retro to the roots scene.
Drawn from the musical traditions of New Orleans funk, Mississippi blues and 60s jazz, soul and R&B classics, Marshall’s blistering originals and re-funked covers are an assortment of sounds which move through genres with a fusion of old and new.
In an explosion of modern sound, delivered both musically and lyrically with flare and sardonic wit, Charlotte Marshall and the 45s are set to make an indelible mark on the blues and roots scene and the live show is so scorching that a dedicated following has been left begging for more.
In April 2015 Charlotte Marshall & The 45s won The Blues Magazine’s Future of the Blues competition. This is a must see live-force not to be missed.
This show is available to members of Edinburgh Blues Club with no additional ticket charge. Non-member tickets available for £13 from preceding Edinburgh Blues Club shows, Ripping Records, Tickets Scotland and Ticketweb or on the door (subject to availability) without any additional booking charges.
Please note due to a number of large festival offers in the USA Samantha Fish has cancelled her proposed trip to Europe in June. No alternative dates have at this time been given but we presume she will return in the Autumn.
