7:00 PM Monday 13 January 2014.EBC Open Meeting

First Meeting of the Edinburgh Blues Club  A dark night in Edinburgh but a bright light for the Edinburgh Blues Club.  Over 40 turned out to gather at the Scotch Whisky Society to
listen to the proposals outlined by the EBC Steering Group (Duncan Beattie , Andrew Sinclair, Nick McCulloch). We even had a Glasgow presence which was excellent as we don’t just want to limit ourselves to Edinburgh city:-)

Duncan kicked things off with an inspiring presentation as to why we want wish to establish an Edinburgh Blues Club , followed by Andrew proposing a subscription model based on individual contributions of 10 pounds per member to fund the club. This subscription is equivalent to free entry to each gig we put on, non members would pay pull price or an option to join EBC. We had 24 intents to become a paying member and we are working hard to put the Bank Account in place to be able to accept your subscriptions. Fantastic and thank you very much.

We will are looking for legal advice to determine the optimum way of setting up the Club so if you have that skill and wish to help/assist us then that would be great. Just contact anyone from the Steering Group. We are also reading through the feedback replies from last night and we will attempt to address a many of them as we can. We would also like to thank the audience for attending and for their comments , questions raised.

Now the hard work begins 🙂 Keep on passing on our name to your friends and colleagues and we will keep you fully up to date with happening on this web site. Nick, Duncan , Andrew, Richey

Hi Nick Happy New Year!
If the meeting starts at 7, it probably won’t go on much past 9:0 – 9:30pm? I could certainly get up and back, depending on weather, car, arthritis and the gods! 🙂
I’ve got info about forming a constitution, establishing a management committee (how many office bearers etc.) and a few other hopefully useful bits from past experience. Want to go for charitable status or have access to a Funder Finder – info about grant giving/funding organisations?

Happy New Year to you Annie, I hope 2014 kicked off in style for you? There is a pre meeting happening with a smaller “steering group” to discuss these points. We would be appreciative of any info you have that could help us. Would you be willing to send that info to us?

blueshawk · January 4, 2014 at 12:53 pm

Will be at the meeting. Have no preconceived ideas but will hopefully be enthused by what I hear.

    Nick · January 4, 2014 at 1:32 pm

That’s great Blueshawk. Room may be limited to space , but I am sure we can squeeze everyone in 🙂

DuncB · January 11, 2014 at 2:31 pm

The updated agenda will look at the following:

1. Why we want a blues club and what we hope to achieve

2. Our membership model

Break

3. How could you help

4. Future plans

5. Questions (feedback forms will also be available)

DuncB · January 14, 2014 at 8:39 pm

It was a bit nerve racking at the start, but great to see so many were keen and that the subscription model went down so well. A few didn’t fill in the form, but also said they want to be members, so let’s keep up the positivity and make it happen! 🙂

Annie · January 15, 2014 at 10:02 am

so sad I missed it . Happy to work on developing things over here that could link up with Edinburgh.
Hopefully make the next meeting!

colin campbell · January 15, 2014 at 11:37 am

Missed the meeting as well due to ill health really annoyed but sounds like it has been a great success , let’s get on with spreading the blues to the masses.
Subs sound a reasonable amount and it sounds as though there were a few musicians there so feedback should be interested. Can help in any way possible keep the blues alive,

Thanks Colin. Once bank account is set up , that will be another milestone out of the way 🙂
